Professional Nursing (RN) Admissions

1 Admissions Calendar

Good choice!  Now that you’ve decided on Professional Nursing (RN), We’ll take you through the program’s application process.  If at any time you have a question that we haven’t answered, don’t hesitate to call us at 417.777.5062 or 800.440.6135

For the Professional Nursing (RN) program, we require a two-part admissions process. First, prospective students must complete the general application (steps 2-7) to be admitted to the college.  Second, accepted students must complete the Professional Nursing (RN) application requirements (steps 8-13).  The Professional Nursing (RN) applicants are admitted on a competitive first-qualified, first-served basis, so it is best not to delay.

After deciding on a program, your next step is to consider when the next opening is for admission into the Professional Nursing (RN) program. BTC offers admission into this program every other year during the fall semester and the next opening for admission as well as the corresponding financial aid deadlines can be found in our Admissions Calendar.

FYI : Admission requirements are based on current admissions policies and are aligned with the college’s practices on equal opportunity. To earn class credit, graduate, or receive financial aid, students must be admitted to the college. If a period of one year elapses during which an admitted student is not enrolled, the student must reapply for admission. Students receiving financial aid and/or students using veterans’ assistance must be admitted to the college prior to receiving aid. Students for whom English is a second language shall meet the same general admission/program requirements as other students.

5 Entrance Test for General Application

Every new student that applies to a degree or certificate program at BTC is required to take the Wonderlic entrance test.  This is a basic test of your reading, math, and language usage skills.  You can also find example tests Here and Here . If you would like extra study material, please contact us.

Call 417.777.5062 or 800.440.6135 to schedule an appointment to complete the admissions test on campus.  BTC offers the Wonderlic exam on Mondays and Thursdays at 9:30am and 2:30pm and on Fridays at 9:30am (subject to change).  Allow for approximately an hour of testing.

FYI : You must achieve a composite score of 265 or higher on the Wonderlic verbal skills test and achieve a composite score of 265 or higher on the Wonderlic quantitative skills test. Prospective students are limited to three attempts to pass the basic entrance exam. If a prospective student fails to achieve this standard after three attempts, he/she is not eligible to apply for any BTC programs until the next admission period.  The test fee is covered by the cost of the initial application fee, but if you must retest at any time, you will be responsible for a retest fee.

6 Background Screening for General Application

The next step of the general application process is completing a background screening.  We prefer that you complete this while on campus after your entrance exam.

  • If you are already in the Family Care Safety Registry system, please let us know. We will be able to check it automatically and at no charge to you. (Most jobs in healthcare require this screening, so if you’ve been working in the industry, your screening should be available.)
  • If you are not already in the Family Care Safety Registry system, please fill out this screening form and submit it to us. You will be responsible for a $14.25 fee.

FYI : Students must have background screening results that meet satisfactory requirements of the college. Due to the variety and complexity of background results, “satisfactory” will be determined on a case by case basis and in accordance with state and federal licensing agencies, externship and clinical sites.  All documentation will be required in order to evaluate.  Applicant will not be considered for acceptance into the college until all documentation has been evaluated and a determination has been made.

7 Admission Decision for General Application

The last step of the general application process is to make sure that all of your documents have been sent or are on their way to BTC including : all parts of the application, transcripts from various institutions, etc.

It’s your responsibility to follow up with all institutions to make sure your files are being sent.  We can’t complete the general application process until ALL of these documents are in our hands. Once we’ve received ALL of the before-mentioned documents, we should get back to you within a week to let you know if you’ve been accepted into the college.

Admission into the college does NOT guarantee admission into the core class for Professional Nursing (RN).  Once you’ve been accepted into the college, you may apply for the Professional Nursing (RN) program starting with the next step.

8 Professional Nursing (RN) Requirements Overview

To complete the Professional Nursing (RN) application requirements, you will need to have already been admitted into the college.  After you’ve been admitted, you must fulfill your Professional Nursing (RN) cohort requirements.

Professional Nursing (RN) applicants will be admitted into the Professional Nursing (RN) program on a competitive first-qualified, first-served basis, This means that you must first meet all of the following requirements, then will be admitted into the program on a first-come, first-served basis.  It is in your best interest not to rush, but to complete these requirements in a timely manner for the best chance of being admitted.  Your Professional Nursing (RN) application is not considered complete until ALL of these requirements are met, but they can be fulfilled in ANY order. You may start submitting these requirements during the “application/enrollment period” which is 12 months prior to the program start.  NACE I testing will begin 10 months prior.

Professional Nursing (RN) Applicant Requirements (these will all be further explained in the following steps) :

  1. College admission completed.
  2. NACE I test score.
  3. A satisfactory background screening.

The Admissions Office will review completed student applications/requirements for the Professional Nursing (RN) program. Upon meeting minimum cohort standards or higher, qualified applicants will be offered a seat in the Professional Nursing (RN) cohort as long as there are seats available. Once the class has been filled, qualified applicants will be offered an alternate position.

9 NACE I Test for Professional Nursing (RN) Requirements

BTC requires all applicants to the Professional Nursing (RN) program to pass the NACE I entrance test.  Ten months prior to a program start date, we will post a list of available test dates on our Forms page.

Once you have chosen a test date, please call us at 417.777.5062 or 800.440.6135 to schedule your test.  We require a test fee payment of $65 at the time of testing, so please have cash, check or a credit or debit card ready to make your payment.  Our test dates have limited availability and some dates may fill quicker than others.

If you would like additional information about the NACE I entrance exam or would like to find study materials, please see the NACE I practice test.

10 Screenings for Professional Nursing (RN) Requirements

On January 1, 2004, the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare organizations (JACAHO) instituted new regulations that must be followed in order for hospitals, home health agencies, clinics, etc., to gain or maintain accreditation status.  One of these new regulations requires all persons who are involved in-patient care activities, i.e., employees, volunteers and students must have criminal background checks as well as other healthcare related checks.  We require satisfactory results on each : health physical, background screening, drug screening.

  • Health Physical : The health physical must be completed by your healthcare provider before the Practical Nursing (RN) program start date. You may view or download the Health Physical Form here. (The health physical does not have to be completed during the application process, but will need to be completed before the program start date in order to start the program.)
  • Background Screening : This background screening is different than the background screening required for the general application and must be completed in addition to the previous screening.  The background screening must be completed online via Validity Academics within the application/enrollment period.  It costs $38.50.  Once you complete the online background screening, Validity Academics will forward the results to BTC.  You can find detailed instructions on our Validity Criminal Background Check Instructions page.
  • Drug Screening : BTC will arrange unannounced drug screening times.

FYI : Students must have health physical, background screening, and drug screening results that meet satisfactory requirements of the college.  Due to the variety and complexity of results, ”satisfactory” will be determined on a case by case basis and in accordance with state and federal licensing agencies, externship and clinical sites. All documentation will be required in order to evaluate. Applicant will not be considered for acceptance into the program until all documentation has been evaluated and a determination has been made.

11 Admission Decision for Professional Nursing (RN) Requirements

Like with the general application process, the final step of the Professional Nursing application is to make sure that all of your documents have been sent or are on their way to BTC.

It’s your responsibility to follow up with all institutions to make sure your files are being sent.  We will not consider your application complete for review until ALL of the before-mentioned requirements are met. Once ALL of the before-mentioned requirements are met, we should get back to you within a week to let you know if you’ve been accepted into the Professional Nursing cohort.

Congratulations!  You’ve completed your Professional Nursing (RN) cohort application!
