Medical Assistant Admissions

1 Admissions Calendar

Good choice!  Now that you’ve decided on Medical Assistant, We’ll take you through the program’s application process.  If at any time you have a question that we haven’t answered, don’t hesitate to call us at 417.777.5062 or 800.440.6135

After deciding on a program, your next step is to consider when the next opening is for admission into the Medical Assistant program. BTC offers admission into this program every spring and fall and the next opening for admission as well as the corresponding financial aid deadlines can be found in our Admissions Calendar.

FYI : Admission requirements are based on current admissions policies and are aligned with the college’s practices on equal opportunity. To earn class credit, graduate, or receive financial aid, students must be admitted to the college. If a period of one year elapses during which an admitted student is not enrolled, the student must reapply for admission. Students receiving financial aid and/or students using veterans’ assistance must be admitted to the college prior to receiving aid. Students for whom English is a second language shall meet the same general admission/program requirements as other students.

5 Entrance Test for General Application

Every new student that applies to a degree or certificate program at BTC is required to take the Wonderlic entrance test.  This is a basic test of your reading, math, and language usage skills.  You can also find example tests Here and Here . If you would like extra study material, please contact us.

Call 417.777.5062 or 800.440.6135 to schedule an appointment to complete the admissions test on campus.  BTC offers the Wonderlic exam on Mondays and Thursdays at 9:30am and 2:30pm and on Fridays at 9:30am (subject to change).  Allow for approximately an hour of testing.

FYI : You must achieve a composite score of 265 or higher on the Wonderlic verbal skills test and achieve a composite score of 250 or higher on the Wonderlic quantitative skills test. Prospective students are limited to three attempts to pass the basic entrance exam. If a prospective student fails to achieve this standard after three attempts, he/she is not eligible to apply for any BTC programs until the next admission period.  The test fee is covered by the cost of the initial application fee, but if you must retest at any time, you will be responsible for a retest fee.

6 Background Screening for General Application

The next step of the general application process is completing a background screening.  We prefer that you complete this while on campus after your entrance exam.

  • If you are already in the Family Care Safety Registry system, please let us know. We will be able to check it automatically and at no charge to you. (Most jobs in healthcare require this screening, so if you’ve been working in the industry, your screening should be available.)
  • If you are not already in the Family Care Safety Registry system, please fill out this screening form and submit it to us. You will be responsible for a $14.25 fee.

FYI : Students must have background screening results that meet satisfactory requirements of the college. Due to the variety and complexity of background results, “satisfactory” will be determined on a case by case basis and in accordance with state and federal licensing agencies, externship and clinical sites.  All documentation will be required in order to evaluate.  Applicant will not be considered for acceptance into the college until all documentation has been evaluated and a determination has been made.

7 Admission Decision for General Application

The last step of the general application process is to make sure that all of your documents have been sent or are on their way to BTC including : all parts of the application, transcripts from various institutions, etc.

It’s your responsibility to follow up with all institutions to make sure your files are being sent.  We can’t complete the general application process until ALL of these documents are in our hands. Once we’ve received ALL of the before-mentioned documents, we should get back to you within a week to let you know if you’ve been accepted into the college.

8 Clinical Requirements

All Medical Assistant students will be required to complete clinical classes before graduating from the program.  Prior to entering the clinical classes for the Medical Assistant program, students will have to provide:

  1. Proof of current American Heart Association Basic Life Support CPR certification.
  2. A satisfactory health physical.
  3. A current immunization record complete with:
    • Tuberculosis Testing (two strips required)
    • Diptheria / Tetanus Booster
    • Measles / Mumps Rubella (MMR)
    • Hepatitis B
    • Other immunizations if requested by clinical site/facility

Although completing these three requirements is not a part of the initial application, they are mentioned here because every student will have to complete these requirements later in the program and need to be aware that if a student cannot fulfill these requirements as needed, the student will not be able to complete the program or graduate. Do not submit these requirements at this point. They will be requested later into the program after the applicant has been admitted to the college.
